A Break in the Weather

Squeezed in a short ride yesterday in between storms. When you were in the sun and the wind wasn't blowing, it was actually warm. Here are photos.

Haven't seen this much snow in the local mountains in a long time. So much that three people including two patrollers died in out-of-bounds avalanches in Wrightwood. Brutal.

Mammoth This Weekend

I'm not going and will probably regret it. Here's the forecast plus a pic misappropriated from the Mammoth site today...

Before getting too bummed, let's not forget how prone everyone is to hyperbole. That photo might not even be Mammoth for all I know. Damn marketing people...

Another Shot from Chicago

Here's another great one from Andre's commute showing the lakefront, the Hancock Building and Navy Pier off in the distance...

Chicago Today

A self-portrait taken by Andre Alforque on his morning commute in Chicago.

Temp at the time was apparently 14 degrees. Notice the snowboarding helmet, googles and gloves. And I thought it's been cold here...

Saturday Ride and Mammoth Recap

Funny, the impact of 13 days off the bike, two trips out of town, eating & drinking plus work. Went for a local ride this afternoon and didn't feel so great. Time to the top of Westridge was as slow as ever and my HR got up to 181. Not a good sign on that particular loop...

Sullivan Canyon got kind of demo'd by the rains from a few weeks ago. New ruts, downed trees, loose rocks, etc. made for slower than normal going. Surprisingly, there was still water flowing in some sections.

Speaking of rain, don't believe the 60" - 90" base depth the Mammoth propaganda site is reporting. There was a fair amount of dirt showing last weekend on various parts of the hill.

Sunday Road Ride

Before the rain hit today, headed over to the valley via Sepulveda and then back via Topanga Canyon and PCH. Here's a link...

Mammoth Getting It

The NWS' Special Weather Statement is calling for 3-5 feet of new on the hill over the weekend. Hopefully, these storms get Mammoth back on track for the season.

New Year's Day Ride

Kicked off 2008 w/ a mellow ride up Westridge, down Sullivan Ridge to Amalfi, up to Ocean Ave. and back on Montana. Weather was windy, clear and warm. Here's a cell phone pic of the bay...
