June Heat Wave Rides
It was toasty this weekend, even on the Westside.
Thought that 9 AM would be an early enough start on Saturday for an mtb ride but was mistaken -- the exposed climbs were all scorchers. Despite several days out of town for work and a few late nights, legs felt great.
Here's a link: Westridge; Rusty Car; Backbone Trail

A few pics from the trail...
Got out a bit earlier on Sunday for a road ride. Temps were hot but not as bad as the previous day.
Here's a link: San Vicente; PCH; Topanga Cyn; Mulholland Hwy; Kanan Rd; PCH; Montana

So Cal Trailhead Map
Check this out... DaveMW, an enterprising MTBR forum poster, created a Google Map of local ride trailheads. Click here for the original thread.
The cool thing is that it's a collaborative project - anyone can add trailheads, comments, etc.

Things got started down south in SD and are working their way up north. I just added the Backbone Trail trailhead at Will Rogers State Park in the Palisades. Jump in and contribute!

Weekend Rides
Headed out on the Scott Saturday for a long one. The route went up Topanga, over Mulholland past Las Virgenes, up Kanan and back home on PCH and Sunset. Here's a link to info on MB...
Total time was 4+ hours with an elevation gain of 5,800 ft. Here's a profile.
On the way home, encountered a ton of exuberant AIDS Ride participants and well-wishers on PCH. Had to split off onto Sunset to bypass the throngs.
Sunday, rode the Turner up in Sycamore Canyon w/ Miles. Headed up Overlook, down Guadalasco, up the paved road, down Sage Trail, up Hell Hill and down the Wood Canyon single-track. Here's a pic...
Tried to locate the mythical single-track that goes down to the beach south of Point Mugu but couldn't find the trailhead. Will have to do more advanced research next time. Here's a link to ride info on MB...

Big Bear Shoot-Out Race Results
Although I'm not participating, I'm still fascinated by what's going on in the Team Big Bear series. Here are results from last weekend's Big Bear Shoot-Out event.
Nor is riding strong this year. Here's a snapshot of how his Sport 35-39 class fared.
Interesting how the 1st place finisher trounced the field by 10 minutes. And then the differential between 2nd and 9th place was less than 5 minutes.
This weekend is Santa Barbara. My prediction is that Nor breaks into the top 5 and Carlyn takes it all in her class.

Sunday Road Ride
Headed out yesterday up Topanga Canyon, across Mulholland, down Las Virgenes/Malibu Canyon and back on PCH.
I thought PCH was going to be a mess from Malibu to Sunset but it turns out that some of the repaving is already done. In fact, from Surfrider Beach to Carbon Canyon, the new surface is very nice.
On a separate note, MotionBased has been experiencing availability issues over the last few weeks. See this thread. Their people finally acknowledged the problem today with this somewhat vague post. We'll see what happens...
