On Saturday, rode the Turner on the local trails. There was a fair amount of water in the canyon and much of the old line had been washed away. Cool thing was the lush greenery bordering the single-track on Rusty Car and Backbone.

On Sunday, headed out to the valley to check out Cheseboro Canyon w/ Mike McCarthy and some of his friends. I had only ridden there once and that was back in 1993 or so on a fully rigid Trek 970 with toe clips, cantilever brakes and thumbshifters. Didn't realize the trail network was so extensive. Will definitely be riding out there again before it gets too hot and the greenery turns brown.

GMR Climb
Participated in a hill climb organized by Nor and some of his friends last weekend. After a 10 mile spin, it was an 8 mile grind up Glendora Mtn Road to about 3,400 ft. Brett beat everyone w/ a time of around 42 minutes for the climb.

Saturday MTB Ride
Rode locally today with Mike under unsettled skies. Checked out Hectic, a trail going down to the valley I had heard about but never sampled. A fairly steep pitch, loose conditions and deep ruts in certain sections meant a fair amount of walking - at least for me.
On the way home, rode the Westridge single-track which appears to be making a nice come-back after getting plowed last year.

The Santa Monicas from 4,500 Ft
On the way outta town Friday, flew directly over Brentwood and some of the local trails. Here are a few pics...
In the foreground is the neighborhood around Westridge, Bayliss, etc. On the left, Sullivan Canyon and on the right, Mandeville Canyon.
The plowed section of Sullivan Ridge that was blogged on a few weeks ago. Look closely and you can kinda see the new trail taking form, especially around the oak trees. The distinct line on the right that at first glance might look like single-track is actually the fire-road.
A wide shot of the southern SF valley, Dirt Mulholland and the various fire-roads going up to the spine from both sides.
Cool to get a different perspective on the trails we spend our free time riding and thinking about.

Mammoth from 12,000+ Feet
Hit Mammoth over the weekend and got sunny skies and pre-spring conditions. Saturday was a little breezy and firm on top but Sunday was warm and still.
Ended up flying w/Shoe rather than driving which was killer. The flight up the central valley and over the Sierras took 2 hours. Here are pics from the air...
The barren backside, the gondola building at 11,053 feet and White Mountains off in the distance.
Banking over the chair 23 enclosure.
Looking back at the face, the upper gondola and chair 3.

Sunday Sullivan Ride
Mike McCarthy has been talking up the Sullivan singletrack so I finally checked it out this morning.
After getting plowed last year, the ridge has received a lot of trailwork recently. With a number of big gap jumps, smaller kickers and berms, it's evident those who did the work are way more aggro than your average XC rider (and me).
Wasn't sure of the right line so I kept gravitating to the old one out of habit. Definitely not the call. Next time down will be more fun. Here are a few pics.
